FAQ

1. WHERE DO I PLACE MY CONTAINER FOR SERVICE?

The preferred location for your container is either the left or right side of your driveway. Be sure the handle faces your house and the container is within 2 feet of the curb or roadway and at least 3 feet from obstructions such as fences, lamp posts, or mail boxes.

2. HOW CAN I PROTECT MY CONTAINER FROM BEARS?

Especially in the early spring as bears are waking up from their hibernation, bears will find your containers.  Some simple tips to keeping the bears away – eliminate potential sources of easy food by keeping pet food indoors, only feed birds during the winter (bears are less active then), keep garbage indoors until just before the pick-up service arrives and clean barbecue grills after they are used.  For more information visit the Grizzly Bear Outreach Project.

3. WHAT ABOUT PARKING ON COLLECTION DAY?

DO NOT park along streets where access to container may be blocked. Generally 8 feet clearance from isolated vehicles is sufficient. Keep container away from cars, boats and trailers to avoid risk of damage.

4. WHAT WILL NOT BE COLLECTED?

Items that must not be placed in the container include: sod, dirt, rocks, concrete, toxic, hazardous or flammable materials such as oil, gas or paint; HOT ASHES; and debris from construction, remodeling, demolition or dead animals.

5. WHAT IF A CONTAINER GETS FULL BEFORE COLLECTION DAY?

Each 60 gallon container will hold the equivalent of two normal garbage cans. Each 90 gallon container will hold the equivalent of three normal garbage cans. You may also put out additional bags, boxes and cans to be picked up for an extra charge. If you need special or added service, call 642-2541 at least one working day in advance of your collection day. Remember, refuse must fall freely from container when dumped.

6. WHEN DO I PLACE MY CONTAINER OUT FOR SERVICE?

All refuse must be at curbside by 6:30 a.m. on scheduled collection day. Collectors will not come back for refuse put out after truck has passed your residence, without an additional charge.  Please call office to schedule this.

7. WHAT DO I DO IF I SEE SOMEONE DUMPING IN MY CONTAINER OR ILLEGAL DUMPING?

It is illegal to use someone else’s container.  Call Dept. Community Development – Bob Hazen (code enforcement) 360-642-9382
