A Waste Connections Company
Our Company
Founding Years (1954-1958): Founded in October 1954 by Art and Donna Alexander, Peninsula Sanitation Service began with a dream of owning their business. Starting with minimal resources—a house, a 1950 Chevrolet open box truck, an old barn, and a few garbage accounts—the company operated with Art as the sole employee, using a card table in the kitchen as their office.
Expanding Services and Territory (1958-1982): Expanding from the south end of Pacific County to encompass all of Pacific County and half of Wahkiakum County in the mid-60s marked a significant growth phase. The company extended its services beyond the peninsula, with drivers covering over 200 miles daily. In 1982, the original dump site became a solid waste landfill, accommodating growing needs.
Evolution and Automation (1982-1991): In response to newer landfill regulations, the landfill closed in 1982, making way for a transfer station and recycling center. Automation began in 1989, with all customers provided roller totes. The company's recycling efforts expanded, diverting tons of materials from landfills annually.
Modern Era and Ownership Transition (1991-Present): Since 1991, Pacific County garbage has been hauled to a regional landfill in eastern Oregon. Over the years, the company underwent various changes, including a significant remodel of the transfer station and recycling center. Ownership transitioned to Jay Alexander in 2017 and later to Waste Connections in 2021.
Recent Achievements (2004-2010): Honored as the "Company of the Year" by the Washington Refuse and Recycling Association in 2004 and 2010, Peninsula Sanitation Service continues its legacy under the guidance of family member Ned Bittner.
Ongoing Remodel and Legacy: Completing a $2 million remodel in recent years, Peninsula Sanitation Service remains committed to serving customers and upholding its family legacy.
